We will visit the South African Air Force Monument, the Air Force Museum, the Klapperkop Fort Museum and the Union Buildings. We will take the scenic Johan Rissik Drive route through the Groenkloof Game Reserve on our way back to Pretoria where you can view game and have a panoramic view of Pretoria and surrounds.
The SA Air Force Monument commemorates those who died in aerial conflict in the history of South Africa. The South African Air Force was officially founded in 1920 and is the Commonwealths second oldest Air Force. South Africans volunteered to serve in both World Wars. It was opened in 1963 by State President Jim Fouche. The Air Force Museum is the largest aviation museum in South Africa.
Fort Klapperkop is a Military Museum of the fort that was built to protect Pretoria from the east. Built in 1897, it uses a moat and drawbridge as protection. On display is a bicycle for 9 riders which was adapted for soldiers to ride on railway lines.
