Rihann has been birding for the last 30 years. He is working as an Avifaunal (Birds) Specialist and Global Information System (GIS) technician for an environmental impact study company. Rihann is well known in birding communities and is one of the top birders in the country when it comes to identification of birds. Rihan has done more than 500 Avifauna specialist studies and reports for Galago Environmental CC for proposed developments, solar facilities, wind farms, solar farms and mining and rehabilitation.
He is also a past Vice-chairman of BirdLife Northern Gauteng (Pretoria Bird Club). He leads birding outings and tours for BirdLife Northern Gauteng and various other bird clubs and is operating as bird and tourist guide at Sammy Marks museum, Rietvlei Nature Reserve and several other conservation institutions and bird clubs.
He gives lectures on bird ringing, bird identification and quizzes as part of BirdLife Northern Gauteng activities as well as to various other organisations and is a past Chairman of the Pretoria Bird Club ringing group and is responsible for training and registering of newly qualified ringers at SAFRING and much more……
Apart from birding he also specialise in mammal and reptile identification. His hobbies include photography, skydiving, hiking and cricket.
